A district-wide pulse polio immunization drive began on Sunday in Kokrajhar of Assam, targeting children under five years old.
The campaign aims to ensure no child is left unvaccinated through a multi-pronged approach, including dedicated booths, door-to-door visits, mobile units, and transit teams.
The campaign was officially launched by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Masanda Pertin, at RNB Civil Hospital.
Addressing the inaugural event, Pertin stressed the vital role of vaccination in eradicating polio.
“This drive is crucial in protecting our young generation from the debilitating effects of this highly contagious viral disease,” she said.
Pertin was joined by Kabita Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kokrajhar, and Dr. D. Bhowal, the District Immunization Officer, along with other officials, in leading the district’s effort to combat polio.
The immunization drive is part of the Sub-National Immunization Day (SNID) Polio Campaign, observed across the country from December 8 to 10, 2024.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of polio vaccination and its role in protecting children from this preventable disease.
Parents and guardians have been urged to actively participate by bringing their children to the nearest immunization booths or ensuring they receive the vaccine from visiting teams.
Officials emphasized that complete immunization is critical to safeguarding children against the threat of polio in the region.
With a strong commitment to eradicating polio, Kokrajhar’s health authorities are working tirelessly to reach every eligible child, ensuring a healthier and polio-free future for the district.
