Meghalaya has been honoured for its exemplary efforts in reforming the Public Distribution System (PDS) during the launch of Anna Chakra, a cutting-edge PDS supply chain optimization tool. The recognition was presented by the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, at an event inaugurated by Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and New and Renewable Energy.
The accolade underscores Meghalaya’s strides in enhancing transparency, efficiency, and accountability in PDS operations, ensuring food grains reach beneficiaries in a timely and effective manner.
Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner and Secretary of the Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, lauded the dedicated efforts of his team.
Highlighting a notable achievement, Bakshi mentioned that the deployment of critical server infrastructure was accomplished within an extraordinary timeframe of just four days.
This feat was achieved through collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), IIT Delhi, and the National Informatics Centre (NIC), whose technical expertise was instrumental in implementing the reforms.
Minister for Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Comingone Ymbon, congratulated the department for its achievement.
He praised the collective efforts that have positioned Meghalaya as a national leader in PDS reforms.
Ymbon noted that advancements in supply chain management not only enhance resource allocation but also significantly improve service delivery to citizens.
Meghalaya’s inclusion among the honoured states reflects its proactive governance, leveraging technology and innovation to better serve its citizens. The reforms undertaken provide a benchmark for other states aiming to improve their PDS operations and ensure food security.
