Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati hosted the foundation ceremony for the Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Jyoti & Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology on its campus on Tuesday.
This landmark event represents a significant leap forward in advancing cutting-edge research, education, and innovation in India.
Rahul Mehta, Chief Executive Officer, Mehta Family Foundation, USA, laid the foundation stone of the schools in the esteemed presence of Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, and Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati.
Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director, IIT Guwahati, presided over the event, joined by eminent dignitaries including Prof. Shankar Subramanian, and Prof. Rajesh Gupta, from the University of California, Santiago, and Prof. Ananth Grama Purdue University, USA.
Expressing his vision, Mr. Rahul Mehta, CEO, the Mehta Family Foundation, said, “This is a momentous occasion for IIT Guwahati and the Mehta Family Foundation. The Jyoti & Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology is set to revolutionise healthcare by merging engineering, biomedical science, and design principles. It will focus on developing innovative, affordable healthcare solutions tailored to India’s specific needs.
Sharing his insights on the vision of Jyoti and Bhupat Mehta School of Health Sciences and Technology, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Puranik, Executive Director, AIIMS Guwahati, said, “This school will integrate medicine and engineering to develop cutting-edge technologies like bionics, nanotechnology, robotics, and bioinformatics. It will also explore personalised medicine and wearable devices, driving innovation to alleviate human suffering and improve healthcare outcomes.
