SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is currently visiting New Delhi with a delegation of his cabinet ministers, is actively pursuing a variety of healthcare initiatives to enhance the medical infrastructure in his state. On August 8, the Chief Minister engaged in significant meetings with Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandviya and Naresh Trehan, the Managing Director of Medanta, a hospital chain, to bring advanced health initiatives and ensure quality services and facilities for the people of Meghalaya.

Initiating a productive discussion with the Union Health Minister, Sangma, while expressing his gratitude to the Centre for the Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PM ABHIM) scheme, sought Mandviya’s support in setting up an additional 75 Sub Health Centres in Meghalaya.

He said that these centres would be transformed into Health and Wellness Centers, facilitating proactive healthcare services aligned with the vision of Prime Minister’s ABHIM Scheme.

“Met with Hon’ble Union Health Minister, Sh. @mansukhmandviya ji to express our thankfulness to GoI for the PM ABHIM scheme that is immensely helping Meghalaya in bridging the gap of health infrastructure required in the State. Today, we met Hon’ble Union Health Minister to request for an additional 75 Sub Health Centers for the state which will serve as Health & Wellness Centers for proactive healthcare in line with the vision of Hon’ble PM & the PM ABHIM Scheme (sic),” posted the Chhief Minister on a popular micro-blogging website.

The discussions also explored the possibility of recruiting nurses from Meghalaya and offering them opportunities for employment abroad. This move is aimed at empowering local talent and providing them with career growth prospects while contributing to healthcare systems on a global scale.

In another crucial engagement, Sangma met with Trehan, the MD of Medanta, to discuss and introduce diverse healthcare initiatives in Meghalaya. The primary focus was on establishing digital diagnosis in TB care, an endeavour that will be undertaken under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. This innovative approach is expected to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of TB diagnosis and treatment in the state.

Sangma also emphasised on the need for specialised training courses for medical technicians, intending to upskill and enhance the capabilities of medical professionals in the state.

Sharing his aspirations from the meeting with Trehan, Sangma posted, “Met with @medanta officials to discuss the setting up of digital diagnosis in TB Care in Meghalaya under CSR initiative & to look at possibilities of recruiting nurses from Meghalaya, explore employment abroad, training courses for upskilling and training for medical technicians. Look forward to positive outcomes (sic).”
