Itanagar: Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering on Saturday flagged off the highest endurance mountain biking competition— Monduro 4.0—from the Tawang walkthrough market in Arunachal Pradesh.
This year’s event has drawn participants from eight countries and across India, including UCI Enduro World Champion Alex Rudeau from France and Nepal’s Downhill champion Neerav Shrestha.
Tsering hoped that Monduro 4.0 would give a significant boost to tourism in Tawang.
The event is being organized by the Tawang Cycling Association and sponsored by the state’s Tourism Department.
Tsering also praised the Tawang Cycling Association for their efforts to revive traditional foot tracks historically used by residents to travel and trade with Tibet, which has now been incorporated as a part of the Monduro route.
Taking to social media, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “We’re thrilled to have athletes from across India and around the globe joining us in the scenic Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.”
Khandu further said, “This incredible event, with its tough course starting at 14,400 feet, showcases not just the strength and endurance of each rider, but also the natural beauty of our region. Best of luck to all competitors.”
The chief minister recently unveiled the official t-shirt and hoodie for the 4th edition of the Asia Enduro Series Monduro 4.0.
With a challenging course that begins at an elevation of 14,400 feet and descends to 8,000 feet, Monduro 4.0 is widely recognized as one of the toughest races in the world.
To prepare participants for the challenging race conditions, practice races were organized on November 10 and 11, ahead of the final race on November 13 and 14.
