Imphal: In an effort to curb the illegal liquor trade in the state, Manipur Police has dismantled two illegal Distilled Indigenous Country (DIC) liquor manufacturing units in Churachandpur.
Acting on a specific input, a team of Manipur Police raided a manufacturing unit in K Vangphai Village on Monday.
During the raid, police apprehended two individuals involved in the illegal brewing and distilling activities. The unit was dismantled and a four-wheeler vehicle was seized from the site.
Simultaneously, another raid was carried out at the LFC Inn, resulting in the seizure of illegal DIC liquor. The owner of the establishment was apprehended for further investigation.
During both operations, police seized essential manufacturing equipment, including fermentation vessels, distillation apparatus, raw materials like rice or sugarcane, yeast, and bottling equipment, said a police official.
As per reports, a total of about 1500 L of DIC liquor and 500 cans of beer were seized. The seized liquor was subsequently disposed of to prevent its consumption.
The police handed over the arrested people and seized liquor to the state excise department for further legal proceedings.
