Agartala: Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting the early completion of border fencing work and augmentation of Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border to prevent infiltration.
In the letter, Deb said Tripura shares an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh and a major portion of fencing has already been completed but a stretch of about 26.64 km still remains unfenced.
The former Tripura chief minister stated, “It has been informed that there is no issue of land acquisition for undertaking border fencing in the left out area and the construction agencies are carrying on the work of border fencing in the left out portion, but at a very slow pace.”
Deb highlighted the dilapidated and rusty state of the old border fence, which had not been adequately maintained for years.
“Now with the disturbed law and order situation in Bangladesh, there is possibility of vested interests taking advantage of the porous border. It is, therefore, requested that concerned agencies be directed for early completion of fencing of the left out portion and renovation of the old border fence, wherever needed, he said.

He further stated that although proactive measures implemented by the Central Government have so far prevented infiltration, it is imperative to augment the strength of the BSF to bolster border security and mitigate any potential adverse consequences arising from the situation in Bangladesh on Tripura.
