Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has urged the Central government to establish a Mizo territorial force.
The request was made by the chief minister during a recent meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma urged the Union Minister to establish Mizo territorial battalions consisting of only Mizo youths, an official said.
Singh assured Chief Minister Lalduhoma that he will put up the matter in the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, he said.
Earlier, the Mizoram government had urged the Centre to raise scout battalions for Mizoram under the Defence Ministry.

Later, the government opted for the Mizo territorial battalion as authorities in the Defence Ministry suggested to seek permission for territorial battalions, citing that scout battalions are usually deployed in the Indo-China border.
