Tura: The College of Community Science, Tura, which is a constituent college of Central Agricultural University (Imphal), marked its 21st Foundation Day on Tuesday with a grand celebration at the district auditorium in Tura in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district.
The event was graced by Dr. Mamoni Das, Dean of the College of Community Science, Assam Agricultural University in Jorhat, as the chief guest, and Dr. Raghavendra Kumar MG, IPS, DIG, as the guest of honour.
Presiding over the celebration, Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad, Dean of CCS, CAU, Tura, welcomed a large gathering of students, faculty, and community members. Tengchi Margarette G. Momin, MCS, ADC, also attended the event.
The program included speeches from dignitaries who highlighted the institution’s significant growth and achievements over the past two decades.
The celebration concluded with a vibrant showcase of cultural performances, reflecting the region’s rich cultural diversity.
The college started its first academic session for B.Sc. (Hons.) in Community Science in the year 2004 in a temporary building at Dakopgre, Tura. In 2009, the college relocated its academic and administrative work to its permanent campus at Sangsanggre.
The college currently offers two undergraduate four-year degree programmes in B.Sc. (Hons) Community Science and B.Sc. (Hons) Food Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition, Post-Graduate courses in Food Science and Nutrition, and Extension and Communication Management are also offered.
Students, after completing their 10+2 in Science, can join the UG programs through nomination by the respective state governments of the North-Eastern Indian states or after clearing the entrance examination conducted by ICAR. Alternatively, students can apply directly to the college and be selected based on merit.
There are five main departments in the college that include Family Resource Management, Food and Nutrition, Home Science Extension and Communication Management, Human Development and Family Studies, and Textiles and Apparel Designing.
