ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) has urged the state government to implement more stringent checks on Inner Line Permits (ILPs) to prevent the influx of illegal immigrants.
In a statement released on Sunday, the AITF expressed deep concern over the “large-scale influx” of illegal immigrants into the state, particularly in border districts and the capital region.
The forum highlighted the significant negative impacts of illegal immigration on security, demographics, and socio-economic conditions.
The AITF pointed out that recent sex trafficking cases in the state involved illegal immigrants, emphasizing the urgent need to address the issue. The forum attributed the influx to political instability in Bangladesh, which has led many Bangladeshis to seek refuge in India’s northeastern states.
“Arunachal Pradesh is the soft target for the refuge of illegal immigrants through neighbouring states,” the forum claimed.
The AITF views the influx as a serious threat to the existence of Arunachal Pradesh and has decided to approach the state government to demand immediate action.
The forum has called for increased vigilance at all entry points along the state’s borders and urged the state government to increase vigil at all the entry gates along the inter-state boundaries with Assam and other states.
It has also urged the Arunachal government to deploy sufficient forces to identify and expel illegal immigrants on a mission mode for the sake of the safety and security of the state.
