GUWAHATI: Guwahati-based photojournalist Subhamoy Bhattacharjee and Jitu Kalita, a correspondent of an Assamese daily Niyomiya Barta, have been chosen for the Press Council of India’s ‘National Award for Excellence in Journalism for 2023’.
The duo is among 15 journalists from across the country selected for the prestigious awards in different categories.
Subhamoy Bhattacharjee has been selected in the ‘Photo Journalism: Photo Feature’ category for his photo feature titled “When a clinic comes sailing” published in The Deccan Herald in 2022.
Meanwhile, Jitu Kalita has been chosen in the ‘Rural Stories’ category for a story on a drinking water project scam in Assam’s Jorhat district that was published in Niyomiya Barta.
Currently, a freelance photojournalist, Subhamoy Bhattacharjee was associated with The Indian Express newspaper for several years before working for the Wildlife Trust of India for about a decade in Kaziranga.
He also runs a photography training school in Guwahati, besides contributing to several publications.
The awards ceremony will be held by the Press Council of India in New Delhi on August 5.
