GUWAHATI: A comprehensive ready reference book on newly implemented ‘New Criminal Laws’ was launched in the city on Wednesday.

With ISBN BarCode, the book is compiled and edited by Amar Krishna Paul, a Guwahati-based writer and analyst on current affairs.

Designed in A4 size paperback, the perfect edition was brought out by the J and C Newspaper Group, a leading general book publishing house in Northeast.

The book is a compiled work and is sourced from PIB and MHA, New Delhi. There are as many as 424 pages in the book.

The textual coverage of the three new criminal Acts has been given separately in this book. This book can serve as a valuable resource for both legal professionals and the general public.

The contents of the book have been borrowed from the official gazettes, which include the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) or the Act No.45 of 2023 (BNS 2023) which is replacing the Indian Penal Code, 1860; Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) or the Act No.46 of 2023 (BNSS 2023) which is replacing the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973; and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam or the Act No.47 of 2023 (BSA 2023) which is replacing the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

It carries three comparative charts — BNS versus IPC, BNSS versus CrPC, and BSA versus IEA.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Law and Justice notified that any mention of IPC, CrPC, or Evidence Act in any Act, Ordinance, regulation, or notification will be interpreted as referring to Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) respectively. This notification applies to any act made by Parliament, legislature of any State, ordinance, regulations made under article 240 of the Constitution, President’s order.

“In a word, the book is not only authentic but also reliable. Hopefully, it will take a few months to familiarise us with the provisions of the three New Criminal Laws. This book is an effort to disseminate these three Acts as an awareness initiative for all,” stated a press release.

This book has been dedicated to those teachers who have served the nation with full dedication and commitment during their service period, sadly leaving their earthly existence unsung and unnoticed in this part of Asia.
