GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that under the PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a total capacity of 1,073 kW has been installed in Assam across 311 households.
Taking to his X handle, the chief minister said, “Happy to note, under PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a cumulative capacity of 1,073 kW has been installed in Assam across 311 households.
He said with strong support outlined in the Interim Budget 2024 and Union Budget 2024, a large number of houses is expected to adopt this scheme.
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a Central government scheme that aims to provide free electricity to households in the country. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, this year.
Under the scheme, households will be provided with a subsidy to install solar panels on their roofs. The subsidy will cover up to 40 percent of the cost of the solar panels.
The scheme is expected to benefit 1 crore households across India. It is estimated that the scheme will save the government Rs 75,000 crore per year in electricity costs.
The benefits of the scheme include free electricity for households, reduced electricity costs for the government, increased use of renewable energy, and reduced carbon emissions.
