SHILLONG: Sounder Strong Cajee, the former MDC of Mylliem and ex-president of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia Garo People (FKJGP), breathed his last on Sunday at the age of 58.
Emerging reports suggest that Cajee passed away at Bethany Hospital around 8:00 am due to a heart attack, marking the end of a significant chapter in Meghalaya’s political landscape.
Cajee’s tenure as the president of FKJGP in 1989 marked a pivotal moment in the organisation’s history.
Additionally, he served as the representative of the Mylliem Constituency as an MDC, contributing to local governance and community development.
Despite recent years seeing him less in the limelight, Cajee remained an active participant in politics.
He made unsuccessful attempts to secure political positions, notably contesting on an NPP ticket from the South Shillong constituency in 2018 and later competing against Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar from the Mawkyrwat constituency on a Meghalaya Trinamool Congress ticket in 2022, both without success.
Cajee’s passing has left a void in Meghalaya’s political circles, with tributes pouring in from various quarters, commemorating his contributions to the state’s political and social fabric.
