Nestled along the serene Tayebulla Road at Dighalipukhuri, Talking Fingers is not just a tea boutique; it’s a revolutionary space run entirely by specially-abled individuals, setting a new standard for inclusivity and excellence in the heart of Assam.
At the helm of this inspiring venture is Ranjit Baruah, a tea entrepreneur with a vision.
His goal? To blend the love for tea with a mission to provide employment opportunities to specially-abled youth.
Baruah explains that everything is done in sign language, providing a unique cultural experience. From attending to customers to taking orders, preparing the food items and tea, all tasks are handled by the staff, emphasizing the inclusive and immersive environment of Talking Fingers.
Opened to the public on May 19, the cafe is staffed by a dedicated team of Gitumoni and Lobhita from Nalbari, Manju Kumari from Lakhimpur, and Vikash Miroh from Naharlagun.
These graduates, proficient in computers, showcase that impairment is not a barrier to personal growth and career development.
Baruah states the idea behind the café lies in the fact that every individual has a right to self-reliance and economic independence. He stresses that impairments cannot hinder personal growth and career development, and that individuals just need a small helping hand.
