GUWAHATI: In a bid to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation, authorities of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP & TR) and Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve (ONP & TR) organised a 160-km bicycle rally spanning two days.

The “Ride for Conservation” bicycle rally commenced on May 19 with a team of eight cyclists from the Bokakhat Range of Kaziranga National Park and culminated at Orang National Park on Tuesday.

As the cyclists reached Orang National Park, they were warmly welcomed by the Divisional Forest Officer of Mangaldai Wildlife Division and the Director Pradipta Baruah.

DFO Mangaldai Wildlife Division shared the event on social platform, urging everyone to join the pledge to protect nature and secure the future.

In a gesture of appreciation, the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) felicitated the participants at Silbori High School ground, with the presence of local residents and notable figures including Dr. Debo Kumar Dutta, senior manager of Aaranyak, and Dibyajoti Deori, Forest Ranger of Orang Park.

Following the rally, an awareness meeting was convened at Ballav Bhai Patel Higher Secondary School in Kaupati, where members engaged with students, stressing the importance of preserving Orang National Park and its inhabitants such as rhinos and tigers.

Led by Arif Hussain, Manager of Aaranyak’s Rhino Research and Conservation Division (RRCD), the rally also included rhino conservation outreach campaigns conducted in two schools along the route.

Earlier on May 19, Dr. Sonali Ghosh, Director of KNP & TR, flagged off the rally in the presence of numerous dignitaries, marking the beginning of a journey dedicated to wildlife preservation.

Posting about the event on a microblogging website, the officials of the Kaziranga National Park expressed enthusiasm for the initiative and highlighted its significance in promoting wildlife conservation and physical fitness.

“Ride for Conservation cycling expedition from Kaziranga to Orang was flagged off today! This initiative promotes wildlife conservation and physical well-being. Kudos to @aaranyak for their support in making this journey possible. Together, we pedal for a greener future!” the post on its official handle on May 19 read.

Supported by the UK-based David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, the initiative aimed to promote the importance of wildlife conservation while encouraging physical well-being.
