GUWAHATI: Former IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre and current independent candidate for the Buxar seat in Bihar, Anand Mishra has broken his silence on his resignation from the Indian Police Service (IPS).

Mishra, who previously served as the Superintendent of Police in various districts of Assam, revealed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had urged him to resign from the IPS with the promise of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections.

However, Mishra said that his political aspirations were dashed when he was excluded from the BJP, leading to feelings of betrayal.

“Eventually, they betrayed me and did not include me in the party,” he lamented.

Expressing his disappointment over the broken promises, Mishra voiced his letdown with Sarma, whom he once admired as a prominent leader.

“I thought he is a big leader but it didn’t work and he even did not include me in the BJP party,” Mishra stated.

Mishra further alleged that his exclusion from the BJP ranks stemmed from fears within the party leadership that he would emerge as a formidable leader, overshadowing their own influence.

Left with no alternative, Mishra opted to contest independently from the 33-Buxar seat.

In recent months, Mishra has been actively engaging with constituents at the grassroots level, addressing local issues, and crafting a people-centric agenda for his electoral campaign.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma, during an election meeting in Bihar’s Buxar, accused RJD’s Lalu Prasad Yadav of fielding Mishra to split votes for the BJP candidate.

Sarma claimed that Mishra had approached him in Guwahati, expressing a desire to serve the BJP before seeking voluntary retirement from the IPS.

Sarma also raised questions about Mishra’s financial resources for the election campaign and suggested scrutinising his communication with Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav.
