Indian boxing delivered a dominant show at the BOXAM Elite International, with 12 boxers — eight women and four men — advancing to the finals to set up a strong gold-medal push on the concluding day of the tournament.
Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) underlined her class with a commanding 5-0 unanimous decision over Wales’ Rosie Eccles in the semifinals, while World Cup gold medallist Sachin Siwach (60kg) continued his impressive run by outclassing England’s Jack Dryden to lead the men’s contingent into the finals.
India is already assured of a gold medal in the women’s 54kg category, with Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar setting up an all-Indian final against Poonam.
Preeti dominated France’s Aya Hamdi 5-0, while Poonam registered a 4-1 victory over England’s Ivy-Jane Smith in their respective semifinals.
Joining Lovlina and Preeti in the women’s finals are Manju Rani (48kg), Nitu Ghanghas (51kg), Priya (60kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) and Naina (80kg), all of whom secured convincing semifinal wins.
On the men’s side, Deepak (70kg), Akash (75kg) and Ankush (80kg) also progressed to the title bouts.
Deepak produced one of the standout performances of the session, forcing a first-round RSC against Kazakhstan’s World Boxing Cup Finals silver medallist Nurbek Mursal, while Akash and Ankush battled past tough Kazakh opponents to book their places in Saturday’s gold-medal contests.
Meanwhile, Pranjal Yadav (65kg), Kajal (65kg), Sanamacha Chanu (75kg), Mankirat Kaur (80+kg), Jadumani Singh (55kg), Mohammed Hussam Uddin (60kg) and Hitesh Gulia (70kg) settled for bronze medals after exiting in the semifinals.
